Town Enhancement & Traffic Management
Keeping Pitlochry beautiful and improving traffic flow
Residents are rightly proud of their town, which is one of the most popular stops for visitors travelling up and down the A9 corridor. This success brings challenges to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike, particularly in the busy summer months and during major local events.

Priorities and Actions
Improving Buildings and Spaces
The Trust will work with key stakeholders in finding solutions for any empty commercial spaces and derelict properties to help maintain the town’s attractive atmosphere. With the help of community groups, businesses and local government a positive environment will be created via public artworks, flower displays and well-kept covered walkways and bus shelters.
We will support innovative business opportunities which enhance the town, such as pop-up shops or a marketplace. Signage in the town can also be improved for walking, cycling, tourist attractions and other facilities.
Make it happen! Volunteer or join us at one of our regular meetings to make your voice heard. For more information, see our Get Involved page.
Parking, traffic management and pavements
We will campaign for better traffic management, particularly on Atholl Road which in residents’ eyes suffers from too much street parking and pinch points. Potential innovations include lower speed limits near the school, disabled-only parking in certain areas, discounted parking for locals and wider pavements, especially in town and on school routes. New parking spaces would help reduce inconsiderate parking by visitors to the town and particular consideration will be given to a policy on caravan and motorhome parking and overnight facilities.
Encouraging active travel
The Trust is keen to see safe lanes and networks created in and around town to promote active travel among residents, whether by cycle, balance bike, scooter or wheelchair. Additional signage to highlight the path network and trails from town to the countryside would also improve the visitor experience.
Town Centre Master Plan
An integrated Town Centre Master Plan pulling together all of the above will ensure Pitlochry is a safe, welcoming town for residents and visitors alike.
