Eco Fairs Showcase Sustainable Living in Highland Perthshire

Pitlochry Community Action Trust (PCAT) and Warm Connections, supported by the Aberfeldy Development Trust, are hosting two Eco Fairs next month.

The events will take place from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, April 20, in Pitlochry Town Hall and from 10am to 2pm Saturday, April 27, in Aberfeldy Town Hall.

Both events aim to promote a more sustainable lifestyle to the whole community by giving local people an opportunity to engage with organisations and individuals who can help them to reduce their environmental footprint.

There will be representatives from sustainable transport and active travel organisations, and from local projects whose focus is reducing waste, including Handam, Climate and Repair Cafés, local up-cyclers and local food and gardening initiatives and more.

There will also be energy advisors on hand to answer any questions people may have on how to use energy more efficiently and reduce their energy bills.

Carol Aitken from PCAT is looking forward to the events.

She said: “We are delighted to be working with Warm Connections and Aberfeldy Development Trust to bring these two events to our communities.

“PCAT held a similar event last year and it was both well-attended and well-received. The feedback we received from those who came along was that it was a very useful event – one exhibitor, the HEAT Project, which provides free professional advice on how to reduce energy use and costs, signed up more than a dozen new clients on the day.

“The Community Action Plan for Pitlochry highlighted that the natural environment is what people in the town value most about living here, and protecting and enhancing the environment and the sustainability of the area is therefore a key priority for the Trust.

“Organising events such as these eco fairs helps us to work towards that goal, and we are looking forward to what promises to be an interesting and informative couple of afternoons and hopefully encouraging a greener approach to life in our towns.”

Anna Sibbald from Warm Connections in Aberfeldy agreed, commenting: “Everyone is welcome to come along to these events and find out more about how we can all live more sustainably and reduce our environmental footprint.

“Come along and find out more about the steps we can all take to make a difference.”

The events, which are also being supported by the Pitlochry and District Climate Café and the HEAT Project, are family friendly and refreshments and children’s activities will be provided.
